Today I am kicking off “faith-filled friday” – a posting on Fridays that will help us to take a look at our faith, discover ways that we can be filled with faith, and ways that we can encourage others and help to fill them with faith.
I’m excited about this because Fridays are a day of exhalation. A day in which our outlook is, in a way, reset. You’ve made it through another week and are able to exhale as you await the weekend. But perhaps it was a tough week…or maybe just a busy week…maybe you haven’t made a whole lot of time for spiritual growth. As you exhale today, looking forward to the weekend…take a moment to examine your faith. Were you filled with faith this week or is your faith tank running on fumes?
The Bible defines faith like this…
“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” – Hebrews 11:1
You see faith is not described as a wish or a whim…it is described as ASSURANCE – a positive declaration intended to give confidence; a promise. It’s powerful because it’s a sure thing. It’s powerful because it is REAL.
And if you read further in Hebrews 11…you can read about the FAITH found in so many people throughout the Bible. You can read about how God chose them, used them for his purposes because of their faith. I encourage you to read it…it’s powerful stuff!!
After touching on the faith of Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Moses, etc…the passage goes on to say…
“And what more shall I say? For time would fail me to tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets – who THROUGH THEIR FAITH conquered kingdoms, enforced justice, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, were made strong out of weakness, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight.” – Hebrews 11: 32-34
All these things THROUGH THEIR FAITH!
Do you see how important it is to be filled with faith? See how POWERFUL faith is??
