Sharing the Beauty of BOTH [your mess & message]

Happy New Year, everyone! Today is the final post for the #beYOUtifulmessage series and I want to thank you for being part of my very first blog series. I am so thankful for your continued support and encouragement and so grateful for the new readers I’ve gained through launching this series!

If you missed either of the first two blog posts of the series, you can find them here (Finding the Beauty in your MESS) and here (Embracing the Beauty of your MESSAGE)!

I hope you’ve been able to use this week and this series as a time to reflect on your past year…your past messes, find the beauty in them…dig deep into those messes to see how God has worked them for the good and through that, I hope you’ve been able to embrace the message that He created out of your mess and begin to become thankful for it!

——

Many times, since beginning Mess into a Message, I’ve had people thank me for my willingness to share, my willingness to be vulnerable and transparent…but the truth is, I felt like sharing was part of it. Sharing was part of the purpose…part of the whole point of it. Going through something like I did…feeling God with me in my mess, seeing God transform my heart for my good…how could I possibly withhold that!? How could I not sing a new song of praises to my God so loud so that others may hear of His goodness?

Today, we are going to revisit Psalm 40:1-3 one last time…focusing on the second half of verse 3:

“I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry. He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure. He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord.”

And this part of the passage may be the most important part of this series…because this, this is where we get to share with others the mercy of God…the goodness of God…the faithfulness of God. Today, we are talking about SHARING the beauty of our mess and our message.

And that is exactly what God wants us to do…

So what does David mean in this part of the verse exactly…”Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord.”

What will they see? What will they fear?

What will they see?

Remember, David has just spoke on the new song that God has placed in His mouth…a new song of praise to God! Even after everything he had just been through…the miry bog, the destructive pit…He would praise God!

So, what will they see? They will see a person who has walked through a muddy, messy swamp of life…someone who had a miscarriage, whose spouse was unfaithful, who lost their job, who lost a loved one…someone who just had a TERRIBLE year in general…continue to glorify God. They will see a person who, contrary to human nature, is humble through their mess, hopeful in tomorrows…always trusting in God’s plan and joyful because of it. They see something real – although raw – something genuine.

What will they fear?

As we find the beauty in our mess, embrace the beauty of our message and SHARE the beauty of both…we share something REAL…something relatable in this broken world…something that rings true in the human heart. And convictions start to build in the listener. Perhaps an unbeliever…perhaps someone currently walking through their own mess…whoever your listener is, they will see truth and hope in your mess and message…and have a fear of their unbelief! Fear in setting their trust and finding their hope in all of the wrong things… If you, after everything you’ve been through, can still sing praises to our King with a joyful heart…what are they missing?

You see when we walk through a miry bog…when we fall into a pit…God is SO good that He is not only going to use it for OUR good when he delivers us from it…but He is going to use it for OTHERS’ good, as well. He puts a new song in our mouth so that we can go out and share it with others so that they may benefit, too. God’s mercies do not stop at our own personal song…He wants us to win others to Christ by waiting patiently and humbly for Him during trials, and when He delivers us from those pits in His own timing and sets our feet upon a steady rock…we are to sing aloud our new song, pointing to His grace…love…mercy…goodness…faithfulness. And by God’s grace…our listeners may make the decision to put their trust in the Lord!

And, Hallelujah…that truly makes it worth it! If one’s suffering leads to the saving of souls…leads people to knowing and trusting in Jesus…isn’t it worth SHARING!?

I encourage you today…this YEAR…to challenge yourself in this way. To leave your chapter open if you have unanswered prayers. Wait patiently for the Lord. He will deliver you in His timing…He will use it to benefit you. The Lord will use it for your good…but He won’t stop there. He will put a new song in your mouth so that you can sing His praises and SHARE the good news with all who will listen!

——

I pray that my sharing has done just this. Even if just for one person…I pray that sharing my story and my heart has led someone to see and fear…and put their trust in the Lord!

I’d love to hear if it has…I’d love to hear from you! Comment below, or remember to share through Facebook or Instagram with #beYOUtifulmessage.

Happy New Year and may this be a wonderful year for you in your walk with Jesus!

His will, His way…

Lisa
