God shows up in BIG ways!

Remember my Calling All Prayer Warriors post when I quoted “The Circle Maker” with…

“GOD HONORS BOLD PRAYERS; BOLD PRAYERS HONOR GOD”

Well, that could not be truer for us in our journey right now! As a reminder, our big, BOLD prayer was for God to bring a gestational carrier to us, without the use of an [expensive] agency – someone who loves the Lord and who was in surrogacy for the “right reasons”, who was doing it for a GREATER purpose! We believe God has led us to this place in our lives for a reason. I know that He hand-picked us for this journey, knowing we would use our story to glorify His name! And I knew our big, BOLD prayer was not asking too much. Remember, BOLD prayers HONOR God!!

Before I go on any further, let me first say THANK YOU to those prayer warriors out there who lifted us and our hearts’ desires up in prayer! So many verses have flooded my heart throughout these last few months giving me hope and peace and JOY in what our future holds…

Matthew 19:26 – Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
Mark 9:23 – “If you can?” said Jesus, “Everything is possible for him who believes.”
Philippians 4:13 – I can do everything through Christ who gives me strength.
Romans 8:28 – “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
Jeremiah 29:11 – For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

God is so, SO good. He gives us the reassurance we need to continue to push forward and have hope and faith in Him! We took a leap of faith and we prayed a BOLD prayer and He heard us loud and clear!

It is just SO AMAZING how God puts each piece of the puzzle together for us! Now, looking back at our journey thus far…I am in complete AWE at His hand in this. He has been in control the entire time and I have worried for no reason. Just like Philippians 4:6-7 tells us,

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Jumping to the end of the story (and I will go back and give you the details of our meeting), we have found our gestational carrier and she is a wonderful Christian woman with an amazingly supportive husband and a beautiful, little 2 year old boy!! Praise the Lord. God is so, very good!! Jessica, our surrogate, shared this with me one day:

I mean, what could be more true than that!? And God truly showed up in a way that I cannot explain! Here is how Jessica and I were brought together…

A good friend of mine at work, Rachel, connected me with a girl she went to high school with who had been a surrogate in the past. I talked with her and she offered to share her experiences with the process and was happy to answer any questions I had. I noticed that she followed a page on Facebook called “All Things Surrogacy”, so out of curiosity (and thinking I could learn even more about surrogacy), I began following the page, as well. I contacted the page administrator and asked her about her organization and what it does. She informed me that it’s more of a support group for surrogates and IPs (Intended Parents) (you end up learning all of the surrogacy lingo/abbreviations as you go through the process) thinking of or actually doing a journey of their own. She told me I was welcome to share my story and the fact that my husband and I were in the beginning stages of finding a surrogate.

So…I prayed, “Well, Lord…you have brought us this far. You have pushed me to share my story and I know you are using me to share your grace and love, I’m going to trust you again on this one and take another leap of faith.” And so on February 27th, I posted my story on the page…

Hello everyone,

I am posting here in hopes to spread the word that my husband and I are in search of a gestational carrier. Currently, we have one daughter who will be two at the end of March! I was able to carry her through my own pregnancy; however, after she was born, I contracted a very rare infection in my uterus. Unfortunately, I had to have an emergency hysterectomy and obviously can no longer carry a baby. This past summer, we went through an IVF cycle (as my ovaries were left) and currently have 3 viable frozen embryo.

I have my full story here on my blog:www.messintomessage.wordpress.com/my-story/ and I welcome you to read it to learn more about our journey so far.

Please contact me if our story touches you or if you are interested in sharing in this journey with us! Please also feel free to share my story, as I hope it is one of faith and strength that can help others going through similar situations!

Thank you for reading and God bless!
Lisa

And then…I waited.

Lots of wonderful ladies who are part of the “All Things Surrogacy” group commented on my post…many were touched and moved by my story, some were even interested in helping, but someone from that group (and I’m not sure who it was) shared my story to another surrogacy group. Whoever she was, God picked her specifically as part of our journey, because her sharing my story to another group, brought my story to the eyes of a surrogacy attorney in Texas. On February 28th, I read this:

Lisa- I’m a surrogacy attorney and a former GC in Texas. A friend shared your blog with me and I immediately thought of a woman who had contacted me recently because she felt called to be a carrier. I sent her the link and she and her husband have prayed about it and would like to get in touch with you– maybe you’re a match? Could you send me your email so I can give it to her? Her name is Jessica.

For some reason, reading that text made my heart jump. “God, is this her?” I thought to myself, “This is how I imagined it to be.” I wanted someone out there to read my story by FATE and be moved to be a part of our journey. I shared my email address and soon after, I had an email from Jessica. Here is part of it:

“God had laid this on my heart (to become a surrogate) over 2 years ago when I was pregnant. …  My husband and I have been praying about it ever since then. We are positive that this is something that He wants us to do. I would love to help you add to your family. You and your family will be in our prayers.”

Wow.

“God, is this her? Is this her?” My heart was exploding and I could not wrap my mind around the feelings I was feeling. I read the email from Jessica while laying on the couch and turned to my husband and said, “I just got an email from someone who is interested and something about her already just seems right.”

Jessica and I emailed back and forth for about a week…getting to know each other as much as you can through emails. We exchanged phone numbers and began texting. And then we connected “face to face” with FaceTime. Avery and her son jibber-jabbered while Jessica and I tried to talk over them to each other. The two of them showed off their toys to one another, Avery insisted on getting out her play-doe because that’s what her son was playing with. The conversation was easy and it truly was just a wonderful talk. We ended the conversation when Avery decided to take a bite out of her blue play-doe “cookie” she had made and I needed to brush it out of her teeth!

After that, I touched base with my doctor to let her know that we had found someone and were ready to get the ball rolling. From March to May, Jessica’s had blood work, filled out medical history forms, and gotten the “all clear” from my doctor to move forward! God is SO faithful and there was not a doubt in my mind that this was who he had picked for us. I booked a flight and flew to Texas to meet her in person. I flew into Dallas and met up with an old friend from high school, Holly, who I spent the day and night with. We were able to reconnect and it was SO good to see a familiar face during a time of such newness and unknown. My friend, Diana, who also lives in Texas, picked me up the next day and we had a mini-roadtrip to Galveston, TX.

While Diana and I missed our girls, it was so nice to connect with each other and have some “momma-time” to ourselves and just enjoy each other’s company. I am SO thankful for Holly and Diana’s friendship, not only are they amazing, Christian women, but they are both so supportive in this journey and dropped everything to be there for me during my trip. God could have picked someone from any other state in the country…but he picked someone in Texas – where I have two great friends and familiar faces to offer support! And also…a very “surrogacy-friendly” state!

This time of year, my husband is crazy busy with his work, so we planned a girls’ weekend at a neutral location and Diana and I met Jessica and her friend, Ashley, at the beach! JJ trusted my opinion of her and besides, she’s taking over MY job as a mother, not his as a father, so he knew my connection with her was most important. The weekend was wonderful and Jessica was everything I imagined her to be. She is kind and thoughtful, and has the sweetest southern drawl (so does Diana!) that will resonate in our baby’s/babies’ developing ears over the course of her pregnancy (God willing, of course). She, too, is a Christian woman and shares in the belief that God has a greater purpose for this journey and is giving Him all of the glory!

Jessica had a special gift for me when I arrived. She had this bracelet made for the two of us. “Overcomer 1 John 5:5”.

“Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.”

I loved it. I love it!! I am an overcomer! We are overcomers! It was the perfect gift.

The trip ended with a drive back to Dallas with Diana…and Diana said it best when I asked her what she thought, “She’s perfect.” She’s perfect. How can you possibly begin to pick someone to take over your job as a mother? Someone to let your child grow inside of them? Someone to let you borrow their womb for 9+ months and then give you your child at the end of it all? Someone “good enough”, “worthy enough”?

You can’t.

But HE can!!

~YOU WILL KNOW THAT GOD IS SHOWING UP WHEN HE SHOWS UP IN A WAY THAT YOU CANNOT EXPLAIN.~

I am humbled by God’s love, in complete awe in His grace, thankful for His faithfulness, and so very joyful in His plan!

So, the next stop in our surrogacy journey is Ohio! Jessica and her husband will be coming to Ohio the end of next month to complete the next step of the process!

Please continue to keep us ALL in your prayers. While we have had a HUGE prayer answered, there are still many more BOLD ones to come!

God is so good! I cannot say that enough!
